Andrew Lansley is busy formulating plans to cut the pay of NHS doctors and nurses in poorer parts of the UK (here). He wants to pay particularly nurses who save the lives of poor patients much less than nurses who save the lives of wealthy patients. His stated rationale is that the cost of living in places like Yorkshire & Manchester is much lower than Sussex, Surrey or Milton Keynes.
